Fourth Annual Make It a Habit Contest

by Kristen Troy

Every year the gym is flooded with members in January. To help members try new classes and work towards their fitness goals for the year, we hold a “Make It a Habit” contest from January 12th – February 22nd. The participants each have contest cards that they record the Group Fitness, Hot Yoga, and SGPT classes they take and get an instructor signature to confirm class completion. This year we distributed more than 400 contest cards.

Each class completed is a raffle ticket that they could use to win one of three grand prizes: $300 Platinum gift card, a $500 Amazon Gift Card, or the HAC grand prize (massage, yoga, MyZone strap, and more). Two weeks ago the grand prize winners were drawn. When they came in to claim their prize they were all asked a couple fitness questions. See their answers below!

Paula Martin: Grand Prize Winner

Did the challenge help you make an exercise habit?

I am a regular gym attendee, but I have certain classes that I regularly go to. The challenge helped me to add new classes to my routine.

What is your favorite class?

Definitely BodyCombat, I will attend up to 4 of the classes a week!

What class would you recommend to a new member?

I would recommend Core Intervals on Wednesday mornings. Once I started doing the core intervals class, I found I was performing better in my other workouts.

Was there a class you wanted to try but didn’t get a chance?

Ultimate Boot Camp sounds like fun!

How many different classes did you try during the competition?

I tried four classes: Core Intervals, Step it Up, BodyAttack, and BodyCombat.

How long have you been a HAC member?

From the very beginning, so about 12 years now.

Did the Challenge help you make an exercise habit?

Yes, I went from exercising 1-2 times a week to 2-4 times a week.

What is your favorite class?

Power Flow because it is invigorating and challenging.

What class would you recommend to a new member?

Cycling is good to get you started in cardio and Align hot yoga is great to learn the basics in yoga.

How many different classes did you try during the competition?

Six classes: Align, Flow, Power Flow, Ignite, Cycle, Core Strength

How long have you been a HAC member?

For about 6 years, whenever anyone in my family doesn’t know what to do, we say, “Let’s go to HAC”. During the colder months we come to do classes and, in the summer, we like to spend time by the outdoor pool and waterside grille.

Sharon Leonard: Platinum Group Gift Card

Did the challenge help you make an exercise habit?

I was already in a habit but added some new classes to be able to get the tickets.

What is your favorite class?

BodyPump, because I find it challenging and I like the content.

What class would you recommend to a new member?

HAC Barre, there aren’t weights so it doesn’t seem as intimidating.

Was there a class that you were intimidated by?

Not intimidated, but Kettlebells made me feel uncoordinated. I have done the class a handful of times and have not been able to get into a flow with the movements.

How many different classes did you try during the competition?

Four classes: BodyPump, HAC Barre, Core Strength, CXWORX

How long have you been a HAC member?

I’ve been a member for a while, about 6 or 7 years.
