Exciting changes are coming in HAC’s upstairs Massage Center! With a host of new aesthetic services and bespoke add-ons in the works, these updates seek to reshape HAC’s wellness service experience while introducing beauty offerings to the mix. Here’s what you can expect.
Meet Doreen
HAC’s Spa Director, Doreen Minner, has spearheaded the reimagining of the HAC Massage Center, the club’s most recent effort to continually offer its members relevant, innovative fitness and wellness services. Despite being a recent addition to the HAC team, you may know Doreen for the decades she’s spent growing a dedicated esthetics client base right here in Hockessin. Her interest in the beauty world began in childhood. “My mom was a hairdresser,” she explains, “and I always was fascinated with hair and makeup and products.” Knowing from a young age that she was meant to work with people, she took her first step in the field at 19 years old, providing manicures, pedicures, and eyebrow waxing at a local salon.
Her constant pursuit of knowledge has characterized Doreen’s 30-year career, always keeping up with new techniques and developments in the beauty space. In her mid-20s, when glycolic acid began revolutionizing the skincare industry, she discovered her passion for esthetics. “A friend of mine actually did facials,” she recalls, “so she gave me a facial, and I was hooked.” After returning to school to learn esthetics herself, she began working in a salon in Florida, where she learned to perform Brazilian bikini waxes and other services that were just beginning to emerge. At 31, she again returned to school to advance her skills in the medical side of aesthetics, learning techniques such as microdermabrasion and laser hair removal when they were still new innovations. In her new role, Doreen is thrilled for the opportunity to use her passion and decades of expertise to give the HAC Massage Center a face lift.
Introducing The Spa At HAC
Under Doreen’s visionary guidance, HAC has begun to overhaul the Massage Center by not only introducing beauty offerings but also restructuring the existing massage and facial service menu to make the spa experience more custom to each client’s treatment needs. So, what’s changing?
The Name
To more accurately represent the breadth of wellness services to come, The HAC Massage Center will become The Spa at Hockessin Athletic Club. The name change will be accompanied by a few updates to the physical space, including a fresh coat of paint and the addition of a dedicated retail section in the current waiting area.
The Menu
With every new service and product, our goal is clear—to provide you with effective, tailored treatments that empower you to look and feel your best. In our continuous effort to offer a comprehensive, results-driven spa experience, we are thrilled to announce a slate of new services and add-ons.
These Include
- Eyebrow Waxing (with optional tint): A 30- to 45-minute service that plays to Doreen’s specialty, this treatment defines and enhances natural beauty.
- Full-Body Waxing: From armpits and Brazilian to bikini waxing, this treatment can help you achieve smooth, confident skin.
- Lash Lift (with optional tint): A treatment that offers a natural “perm” for your lashes, enhancing your eyes for weeks without the commitment of extensions.
- Dermaplaning: This treatment gently removes “peach fuzz” and exfoliates the skin, acting as a perfect standalone service or a pre-facial add-on. Helps improve makeup application and product absorption.
- Bespoke Facial Services: Unlike one-size-fits-all treatments, these facials are tailored to target specific concerns, whether it’s acne, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, aging, or sensitivity. This personal approach ensures that your skin routine aligns seamlessly with your skin’s unique requirements.
- HydraFacials: A state-of-the-art treatment that uses advanced vortex technology to cleanse, exfoliate, extract impurities, and hydrate the skin. Tailored to your unique needs, HydraFacials leave you with a visibly refreshed, decongested, and luminous complexion.
- Special Add-Ons: Customizable massage add-ons like cupping, scrubs, aromatherapy, and more will be available to further elevate your treatment experience.
The Products
Effective May 1st, facial services at HAC will utilize Environ skincare formulas. Environ offers a range of easy-to-use products designed to bring your skin back to beautiful by addressing the root cause of unhealthy-looking skin. Their line contains the scientifically-researched combination of vitamins A, C, E, and antioxidants including rooibos leaf extract, honeybush leaf extract, and specially-selected peptides. It also utilizes a unique step-up system to progressively restore the skin’s natural levels of vitamin A. “I’ve researched the product for almost three years before I knew I was even going to work here,” Doreen notes confidently, emphasizing her commitment to quality and safety. Select Environ products will be available for purchase in The Spa to enable clients to maintain a rejuvenated look and feel between facial services.
The Retail Selection
Our commitment to excellence is not confined to our treatment offerings. We’ll also be adding a wider retail selection for clients to peruse before and after appointments. The new array of products will range from premium skincare and sunscreen to fashionable sun hats, bags, and more.
