Former US Marine Rocco Malin doesn’t fit the typical Santa Claus mold. Each holiday season, this lean, 30-something dons red leather pants, a fur-lined leather jacket, and a flashy red motorbike and sleigh to deliver presents to kids in need. Through this unique and unforgettable ritual, his charity, Motorcycle Santa, brings joy and hope to underprivileged and sick children during the holiday season.
First State Building and Design (FSBD) president Joe Oakes is honored to throw the weight of his business behind making Motorcycle Santa’s annual campaign a continued success. Oakes and Malin have been friends since their school days, so when Malin shared his eccentric vision for the charity with his friend in 2015, he immediately knew that FSBD should be involved.
Beyond enlisting enthusiastic volunteers to ride their motorcycles and spread holiday cheer, hosting a successful Motorcycle Santa campaign takes a village. Fundraising and toy collection begin months in advance with various efforts ranging from ugly sweater bar crawls to charity golf outings. Over the years, countless hours have been enthusiastically contributed to working closely with Malin to support these events and raise vital funds for the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware.
The work of First State Building and Design extends beyond producing quality workmanship. With community involvement as a cornerstone of the remodeling company’s mission, the team feels a heightened responsibility to build camaraderie and goodwill within the community. Giving back to underprivileged children by supporting Malin and Motorcycle Santa for ten years running has continuously reaffirmed the importance of community and the potential impact of people coming together for a cause.
No, “Motorcycle Santa” may not be the Santa we envisioned growing up, but he’s loved by Delawareans nonetheless.
